Cisco UCS
The unified computing system powering the leading converged infrastructure solutions.

INTRODUCING CISCO UCS
Superior performance with simplified deployment – now including the new family of M5 Servers
Why Cisco UCS?
Cisco Unified Computing System is the next-generation data center platform that unites compute, network, storage access, and virtualisation into an intelligent, integrated infrastructure to reduce total cost of ownership and increase business agility.
Cisco UCS helps you standardise IT processes, allowing you to work at a higher level, defining policies and allowing automation to handle routine administrative tasks. Run any workload on any resource with dynamic provisioning, an ultimate unified system that automates system configuration in a reproducible, scalable manner.

Cisco UCS – Service Profiles
The success of Cisco UCS is in a large part down to the speed of provisioning, taken care of by a service profile. A service profile is a software definition of a server and its LAN and SAN network connectivity, in other words, a service profile defines a single server and its storage and networking characteristics.
Service profiles are stored in the Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects. When a service profile is deployed to a server, UCS Manager automatically configures the server, adapters, fabric extenders, and fabric interconnects to match the configuration specified in the service profile. This automation of device configuration reduces the number of manual steps required to configure servers, network interface cards, HBAs, and LAN and SAN switches.
Latest Cisco UCS Technologies
Cisco UCS M5
Cisco’s latest UCS servers do more with less by taking advantage of higher CPU core counts in the Intel Xeon Scalable processors and faster memory performance. Increases in memory, NVMe drives, GPUs, and improved connectivity speeds, provide exceptional levels of performance, flexibility, and I/O throughput.
Cisco UCS S3260 Storage
Cisco’s S-Series storage servers compliment their UCS products, providing a modular, dual-node architecture. As with the compute and network elements, modularity means that you can refresh components with new technologies rather than having to replace an entire server and migrate its data. The Cisco UCS S3260 can support: –
- Computing-intensive applications that are structured to take advantage of high CPU core counts (up to 36 CPU cores per node)
- Cache-optimized applications that use massive amounts of memory (up to 1.6 TB of nonvolatile memory and up to 90 TB of flash memory) to act on active data and make results readily available
- Massive storage capacity for big data and analytics environments, streaming data, and more (up to 600TB of raw storage and up to 4 GB of RAID cache)
- I/O-intensive applications that need to move data quickly and can use dual 80-GB I/O controllers, 8- and 16-GB Fibre Channel interfaces, and 40 Gbps over 10 Gigabit Ethernet using bidirectional interfaces to deliver high throughput
TESTIMONIAL
Having experienced a demo session with Cisco, we were blown away by the architectural simplicity of the UCS and how it could significantly improve performance, management and provisioning. Our infrastructure specialist, Applied Technologies, took care of the whole process – design, validation, supply and implementation – and the results have been way beyond our expectations. Our whole infrastructure has been transformed.

COMPLEXITY COMPARISON:
Cisco UCS vs. HP Virtual Connect
Not all IT architectures are created equal. The Cisco UCS solution offers a simplified management framework by placing all management and configuration services at a pair of centrally located control points called Fabric Interconnects. This allows users to facilitate large-scale deployments and full management with no additional hardware or software requirements.
Download this white paper as an example of how the reduced complexity of the Cisco UCS architecture can simplify your infrastructure, leading to ease of deployment, streamlined management and lower costs.
